We are not adult content.

Update:

As of June 17, 2009, according to the forum thread at http://forums.secondlife.com/showthread.php?t=326230, the word “tits” is no longer on the list of Adult Filtered Words.

However, I still think that word filters without regard for context and without the ability to have exceptions are not a good solution for enforcing “correct” use of adult search words.

See We are not adult content for the previous post on this topic.

I don’t really want to add anything to the debate at this point anymore, just to clear up a few bits of misinformation:

The people who made this decision speak American-style English so try using the American-English version instead. Call them titmice or chickadees.

I do refer to this family of birds as titmice or chickadees where appropriate. However, Blue Tits/Great Tits/Marsh Tits etc. are called just that in American English. They’re not called “Blue Chickadees” or “Blue Titmice” there.

The tit part of titmice would still be blocked.

That wasn’t the case with the word filter at any point.

The word “tit” was blocked in the beginning, but quickly taken off the list after my initial complaints in this case.

The word “tits” is currently still blocked, however the latest word from Blondin Linden is that they are revising the word filter and are removing a bunch of words. I do not know yet if “tits” will be removed or not.

Whether “tits” stays on the word filter or not isn’t going to have a huge impact on my business (as long as I’m careful and don’t accidentally use the word, since I wouldn’t be notified of my shop disappearing from search — and as long as “tit” (singular) doesn’t make it back onto the filter list).

My intent in all this was to show that broad wordfilters that do not allow for exceptions and do not take context into account are pretty much useless, and that false positives aren’t just hypothetical. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Here is a JIRA that proposes a better solution for classified/description rating than such a keyword list: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-4199

I do really make and sell European songbirds in SL and have since long before the adult content changes were first made public. I make the birds that I see outside my window every day — tits are by far the most frequent songbirds where I live. I have been accused several times of having made tits just as a gimmick or to profit from this discussion; the truth is that this whole debate (or should I say, debacle) certainly had no positive effect on my sales, but on the contrary has taken a lot of time out of my days and resulted in a lot of misinformation about me and my business, to the point that I regret having spoken up in the first place.

At this point, I’ll withdraw from the discussion. Everything’s been said anyway and until LL clarify their plan, there isn’t really anything left to do. (Besides informing people, I guess. But people that read the forums are certainly more than informed by now.)
